You’d be forgiven for thinking you aren't in a city,
You’d be forgiven for thinking you are living in another era,
and,
You would be forgiven for wanting to linger longer!
This 100+ -year old, fully restored hotel honours the Southern Right whales that migrate to our shores every year. It is the right spot for sighting whales (May to Sept?), and is the gateway to the Cape Point Route.
--------//-------
DID YOU KNOW? The Southern Right whale got it's name for all the wrong reasons! Whalers so named it because it was the "right" whale to kill - it swam slowly, hugged the shoreline, provided a lot of oil and floated when dead. Baleen, or whalebone, was used in fashionable garments of the late 1800s.
